Dr. Keshri Nath Tiwari is working as a Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, School of Science at Indrashil University, Rajpur, Mehsana, Gujarat. Prior to this, he has served as Associate Professor & Head, School of Allied Health Sciences, Sanjay Ghodawat University Kolhapur, Maharashtra and an Associate Professor & Head, Faculty of Life, Health & Allied Health Sciences, ITM Vocational University, Vadodara, Gujrat. He has also worked as a faculty member in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Raebareli (2008-2020). He finished his postdoctoral research studies from ENSCP, Paris, France (CNRS Laboratory) in the area of bioorganometallic chemistry with an international research grant by Association for Cancer Research (L’ARC), Paris (2009-2012), France. He has also experience of working as a Research Associate in a pharmaceutical company TCG Lifesciences Ltd., Pune. He completed his PhD from CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune under the supervision of Prof. Ganesh Pandey in the area of synthetic organic chemistry (2008). He completed his B.Sc. (1998) and M. Sc. (2000) in Chemistry from DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, UP. He has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience in the area of organic and medicinal chemistry.

PROFILE

Dr. Vijai Singh is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Biosciences, School of Science at Indrashil University, Rajpur, Mehsana, Gujarat, India. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology at Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar, India and also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the Invertis University, Bareilly, India. Prior to that, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Synthetic Biology Group at the Institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology, Paris, France and School of Energy & Chemical Engineering at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Ulsan, South Korea. He received his Ph.D. in Biotechnology (2009) from the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, India. During his PhD, he has cloned, expressed and characterized hemolysin from Aeromonas hydrophila in Escherichia coli. He has extensive experience in Synthetic Biology including MAGE, small regulatory RNAs, pathway designing, CRISPR-Cas systems, and microfluidics. His research interests are focused on design of a novel biosynthetic pathways for production of medically and industrially important value added products. Additionally, his laboratory is working on CRISPR-Cas9 tools for genome editing and gene regulation. His lab has developed CRISPR based diagnostic tool for rapid detection of bacterial infections. He has 10+ years of research and teaching experience in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, microbiology, molecular biology and industrial microbiology. He has published more than 87 research articles, 63 chapters, 14 books (in Elsevier & Springer), and 3 patents. He serves as an associate editor, editorial board member and reviewer of a number of peer-reviewed journals. He is also a member of the Board of Study and Academic Council of Indrashil University and is the Member Secretary of Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) in the same University.

RESEARCH

Area of Research
• Our research work focuses on expanding the synthetic biology toolbox, CRISPR-Cas9 platform for genome editing and novel biosynthetic pathways for chemicals, biofuels and biomaterials. We seek to apply these advances to address global challenges in drugs, energy supply and the environment. The recent advances in synthetic biology have led to the development of a number of synthetic parts, devices and systems for a wide range of applications in disease diagnostics, disease treatment, and production of biomaterials, biofuels and fine chemicals. Synthetic biology toolbox plays a key role for exchanging of parts for production, optimization and tuning of chemicals and biofuels. We have a limited number of well characterized genetic parts and a need arises to design and standardize a library of genetic parts such as promoters, ribosome binding sites, transcription factors, protein degradation tags, transcription terminators, and small RNAs-to name a few. Ideally, these parts should be easily exchangeable and used for designing of combinatorial and tuneable pathways. We are developing a genome engineering platform (CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPRi) for rapid editing of genome towards the development of a fast, robust and high chemicals, fuels and materials producing strains for industrial applications.

PROFILE

Dr Harengiri is working as an Asistant Professor at Department of Biosciences, School of Science from 2018. He did his MSc in Biotechnology from Nirma University and PhD in microbiology from Department of Life Sciences, M K Bhavnagar University. He was working as a Research Fellow in network project sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, New Delhi. His current and past research focused on development of bioremediation strategies for organic pollutants present on coastline of Gujarat using conventional and advanced biotechnology tools i.e. rarely used “blue biotechnology”. The research has produced many scientific publications in reputed journals with high impact factors such as Science of the total environment (IF-10.75), Environmental pollution (IF-9.98), Current pollution reports (IF- 8.09), Ecological indicators (IF-6.26), International journal of biological macromolecules (IF-8.02) etc. Dr Gosai is also interested to develop technology for large scale production of industrially important chemicals by bioprospecting of marine microorganisms using advanced biotechnology tools. It will be helpful to gain interest of entrepreneurs who want to build start-ups. Thus, his main research objective for next 5 years will be establishment of microbial technology for sustainable development.

Dr. Ritu B Patel earned her Master degree (M.Sc.) in Biotechnology from the Department of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and Doctoral degree from National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI), Karnal, Haryana in Animal Biotechnology. After her Ph.D, she gained experience as Assistant professor at Department of Biotechnology in Sharda University, Greater Noida, U.P. During her academics, she qualified CSIR-UGC-JRF in Life Sciences (2011) and ICAR-NET (2013 & 2014) in Agricultural Biotechnology and received Young Investigator Award in 3rd Biennial Pai conference and International symposium on Stress, Microbiome and Probiotics (2016). She received best paper presentation award at International Conference on Advances in Medical and Industrial Biotechnology (ICAMIB 2019) held at Chennai, India and 3rd prize in e-poster presentation in 2021. She got Ist prize in flash talk E-symposium on recent trend in biology organized by Charusat University, Changa, Gujarat 2021 and Ist prize in oral presentation competition at Gujarat Vigyan Sammelan 2022 (GVS 2022) and qualified ICAR-NET in Animal Biotechnology (2022).

Area of Research
• Host-pathogen and host-probiotics interaction studies, Molecular gene cloning, expression and purification of proteins (probiotics, plants and mammals), biophysical and structural analysis of proteins, animal cell and tissue culture (Immunostaining), pathogen exclusion assays Previously, I have done cloning, expression and purification of surface layer proteins (Slps) of three different species of probiotic lactic acid bacteria along with functional and physicochemical analysis of these rec. proteins. The study revealed the possible role of Slps in mediating binding of probiotics with host tissues and that they could be used to compete and exclude the binding of pathogens, so these proteins may find application in the prophylaxis of mucosal infections.
• Role of these proteins in adhesion and pathogen exclusion from human intestinal cells and tissue were determined using Caco-2, HT-29 cell lines (human intestinal cell lines) and human intestinal tissue. Binding potentials of these proteins to intestinal cell lines were observed by immunofluorescence and pathogen exclusion ability was analyzed by pour plating method. Biophysical analysis of Surface layer proteins was done i.e., Thermal denaturation by UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Secondary structure determination by Circular Dichroism, pH stability by fluorescence spectrophotometer. Immunomodulatory roles of Slps were determined by analyzing up and down regulation of inflammatory cytokines (Real-time PCR).

PROFILE

Vishnumaya completed her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the DDU Gorakhpur University in 2000 and 2002, respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in Asymmetric Catalysis from IIT Kanpur in 2009, working under the supervision of Prof. Vinod K. Singh. Following this, she joined the University of California at Berkeley, as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the group of Prof. Richmond Sarpong, where she focused on Total Synthesis of natural products.

Her academic career includes serving as a Senior Research Scientist and Visiting Faculty at IISER Bhopal, as well as an Assistant Professor at other leading MHRD institutions such as NITTTR Bhopal, IISER Tirupati, and IISER Berhampur. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the School of Science, Indrashil University, Gujarat, where she actively contributes to the teaching and research in the School of Science. She is driven by a deep focus on advancing the area of Asymmetric Catalysis.

Asymmetric Catalysis and Development of Novel Strategies for the Synthesis of Natural and Hybrid Molecules and API’s

The VB Research Group is dedicated to exploring novel enantioselective strategies for the synthesis of high-value chemicals with significant pharmaceutical applications, particularly in drug development. A key area of focus is the exploration of bioactive secondary metabolites derived from marine organisms, which often exhibit a broader range of therapeutic effects compared to their terrestrial counterparts. Synthetic advancements in these molecules hold the potential to uncover new bioactive compounds with unique mechanisms of action, paving the way for innovative drug discoveries.

Currently, the group is engaged in the synthesis of complex sesquiterpenes such as cuparanes and herbertanes, distinguished by their intricate architectures, including interconnected cyclopentane and benzene rings. These compounds present a formidable synthetic challenge due to the presence of two adjacent quaternary carbon centers. Additionally, their diverse and potent biological activities further underscore their significance as targets for cutting- edge synthetic research.

• Conservation is concerned with destruction of habitats, decline in population. Species in ecosystem is associated with ecological characteristics and managements challenges. management requirement of species must be based on current rules and regulations. Taxonomy is first step towards conservation. We are involved revision of floristic diversity and in their systematics. Our Work focuses on Documentation of biodiversity and demonstrating evolutionary implications in plant diversity. It also involves documentation of ethnomedicinal knowledge of indigenous people as well as Understanding role of environmental factors in different ecosystem and their application in forest management. We ask basic question in different ecosystem which is going to help understanding ecosystem and its interaction to different tropics. Role of phytochemicals in these interaction is crucial. Phytochemistry is ecological interaction and their multispecies interactions can help ous to understand management of ecosystem services

PROFILE

Dr. Nidhi Gour obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from IIT Kanpur in 2010 and subsequently did post-doctoral studies at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA, University of Geneva, Switzerland and CSGI, University of Florence Thereafter she joined as an Assistant Professor in Indian Institute of Advanced Research as in August 2015. In July 2019 she joined Indrashil University (IU) where she is currently working as an Associate Professor. Her original research as Faculty and lead corresponding author has been published in reputed Q1 journals like Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, ACS Chemical Neuroscience, ACS Applied Biomaterials, New Journal of Chemistry and Soft Matter. The research publication of her group has been cited in high impact Journals like Nature Nanotechnology and ACS Nano. She is also serving as a Co-opted Member in SERB SURE Screening Committee and serves as a reviewer for ACS, RSC, Elsevier and Springer Journals and for UGC FRG Scheme and Israel Science Foundation (ISF) Grant. She has also worked as Coordinator for conducting national and international workshops and conferences like DST INSPIRE Science camp, IU Webinars, GujCOST Webinars and International E-conference.

RESEARCH

Area of Research
• The central focus of our research is based on assessing the self-assembling behaviour of amino acids, short peptides and heterocyclic compounds for their potential applications in biology and material science. In this context, our group is studying the self-assembly of single amino acids and assessing its implication in the inborn errors of metabolisms (IEMs). We want to extend this research to other metabolites too in future to find the underlying molecular mechanism behind pathogenesis of wide range of metabolite diseases. Further, our research group has also studied extensively the self-assembly of modified single amino acids under varying conditions and the research reveal modified single amino acids as very simple and facile scaffold for the fabrication of different micro/nanostructures through bottom up approach. Additionally, our group is also interested in assessing the self-assembling properties of heterocyclic compounds. Our research suggests aggregation/disaggregation are very important molecular mechanisms which govern the performance of various dyes. Finally, our research team also endeavour to develop novel nanoparticle based assays and synthesize new compounds which can be potentially used for sensing and detection of wide range of analytes.

PROFILE

Dr. Poulomi Sengupta has a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Presidency College, University of Calcutta and M.Sc. from IIT Kanpur. She pursued her MS degree in Chemistry with full fellowship and teaching assistantship from Washington University in St. Louis, USA followed by working as an RA in the same university for two years. She relocated to Boston for family reasons and worked in Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School as an RA-II for a couple of years. She relocated to India with her family and joined the Physical and Material Chemistry division in CSIR National Chemical Laboratory, Pune as a DST Women Scientist. She completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences under the supervision of Dr. B. L. V. Prasad. Followed by this, in 2019, she started her independent carrier as an assistant professor in the department of Chemistry, Indrashil University. Currently, she is mentoring two Ph.D. students. She enjoys teaching basic chemistry and Indian classical music.

RESEARCH

Area of Research
• Dr. Sengupta’s research orients around nanotechnology and material science. One side of her research focuses around the development of multifunctional metallic nanoparticles dedicated for the management of solid tumors. The conventional cancer treatment options, for example, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy often faces recurrence of tumor along with huge side effects. Dr. Sengupta is exploring the efficacy of anisotropic metal nanoparticles through drug delivery and photothermal properties for lowering the side effects of chemotherapeutic agents. Another side of her research interest revolves around the surface modification of synthetic polymeric scaffolds for smooth functioning inside human body. Synthetic polymers (mostly hydrophobic polymers like HDPE) carry the advantages of optimal size, shape, porosity, interconnection, and the desired mechanical strength to stay permanently inside human body. Unfortunately, at the same time they are hydrophobic (dislikes water hence the cellular system) which restricts their facile integration with living tissue. To bridge this gap, she has made conscious effort in modifying the polymeric surface with metallic nanoparticles. Nanoparticles, having a diverse surface chemistry impart a handle in changing the surface property of the scaffold. As a result, along with smooth functioning inside human body, the mechanism of cellular attachment (to a foreign body) can be well understood.

Dr. Sujoy Bandyopadhyay, is a native of Panduka Purulia, India. He received his MS in Organic Chemistry from Vidyasagar University in Midnapore, India. During his doctoral studies, he focused on the synthesis of soluble conjugated porous organic polymers which lead to his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Bhopal in 2018. Followed by this Dr. Bandyopadhyay was awarded a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. During his postdoctoral research, he worked on solar cells. Dr. Bandyopadhyay's research has been published in several high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented his findings at numerous national and international conferences. Currently, as an Assistant Professor at Indrashil University, Dr. Bandyopadhyay teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry and conducts cutting-edge research on the synthesis of new functional materilas.

• Design and development of functional porous materials employing multi-step synthesis procedures, as well as their use in a variety of sectors including catalysis, solar-driven photo-electrochemical water splitting, energy storage, magnetic separation of molecules, and CO2 capture, are the main areas of research. I'm also interested in solid state fluorescent compounds and their use in sensing cell imaging, and I have expertise creating, synthesizing, and using metal complexes and their multifunctional applications.

Dr. Ankit Kumar Srivastava is presently working as an Assistant Professor of Physics at School of Science, Indrashil University, Rajpur, Mehsana. He has completed his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay which is one of the renowned institutes of the world. Before joining Indrashil University, he has work experience with well reputed institutes and universities in India such as Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW) and also in abroad. He has more than 5 years of teaching and research experience. He is currently involved and working on carbon nanotube based sensors. During the doctoral program, he studied the torsional motion of some nitrogen heterocyclic molecules using supersonic jet spectroscopy as an experimental tool while for theoretical investigations he used ab initio calculations to optimize the molecules with the help of Gaussian’09. Prior to this he has worked nearly 3 years as a Research Associate at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad. He has served as Adhoc Faculty for 5 years at National Institute of Technology, Warangal. Dr.Chinna obtained his Ph. D (Dr. rer. nat) Organic Chemistry, in 2009, under the Supervisor of Prof. Dr. Oliver Reiser, Institute of Organic Chemistry, from the University of Regensburg, GERMANY. He has worked as a Project Assistant with Prof. S. Chandrasekaran, for two years in Department of Organic Chemistry, at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. He has experienced as a Senior Chemist at G.V.K. Biosciences. He has done his M. Sc. (Chemistry) from the University of Hyderabad (A Central University) and B.Sc from Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana. My research interest is on Enantioselective Total Synthesis, Asymmetric (TM/Photoredox/Organo) Catalysis, Novel Methodologies, Medicinal Chemistry, Fluorination and Trifluoromethylation in Organic Synthesis. Currently I am guiding two students of B.Sc (Hons, Chemistry) VI Semester for their Dissertation and 1 M.Sc (Org.Chem) IV Semester student for his Dissertation. I have also guided to 10 students of M.Sc (Org.Chem) IV Semester for their dissertation at NIT Warangal. Currently 3 Ph.D students are working under my supervision solely.

I have submitted a research grant of amount Rs 10,00,000 (10 Lakhs) to UGC in October 2022 under Dr. D.S.Kothari Research Grant for Newly recruited Faculty Members. I have also submitted another research grant in March 2023, to DST under DST-SERB-CRG (Core Research Grant), worth of Rs 43,20,240 (more than 43 Lakhs) and it is provisionally accepted for evaluation.

Dr. S. Rana has joined the chemistry department of Indrashil University as an Assistant professor in 2022. She pursued a degree in B.Sc. (Biotechnology) from Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Kurukshetra University in 2011 and M.Sc. Chemistry from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala in 2013. Later, She Joined as a project assistant in DRDO INMAS, Delhi. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from University of Delhi, New Delhi in 2021 under the supervision of Dr. Ramendra Pratap. Dr. Rana Has published 13 peer-reviewed research articles and 2 book chapter. She worked as Assistant professor (Adhoc) in Saradar Patel University (2021-2022), Anand, Gujarat. Apart from this, Dr. Rana has qualified CSIR-UGC Net (2014) and Gate exam (2020).

Dr. Manas Pal pursued his doctoral degree in Chemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He has around 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in Material Science/Material Chemistry from Laboratory of Advanced Materials, Fudan University, Shanghai, China and CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. Thereafter he joined one of the leading research journal/book publishing industry (Springer Nature, Pune), where he worked almost 4.5 years. Before joining to the Department of Chemistry, Indrashil University, he worked as a Scientist, R&D in Ashapura Minechem Industries Ltd. (a multi-mineral-based chemical industry) located at Bhuj. Apart from research, he has experience in analysis and retrieving detailed information about properties, characterization, applications, and preparation methods of materials published by AAAS, ACS, Elsevier, RSC, Springer Nature and Wiley. He has published eighteen research articles in highly reputed peer reviewed international journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) and presented technical presentations in various national and international conferences in India, Japan, Australia and China. He has experience in working with cross-functional teams in two different countries (India and China).

RESEARCH

• Dr. Manas has research interest in designing and development of 1D, 2D & 3D nanomaterials/porous materials based on silica, carbon, TiO2, graphene, metal nanoparticles using multistep synthesis process and their applications in various fields such as catalysis, solar-driven photoelectrochemical H2 production, energy storage, magnetic separation of molecules, CO2 capture. Also he has experience in synthesis and application of interfacially-growth-thin layered Porous Covalent Organic Framework material, including sealed-tube/mechanochemical COF synthesis and synthesis of various inorganic nanocrystalline metallic, semiconductors, magnetic and multicomponent nanoparticles under moisture-free and air-sensitive conditions with different architectures.

Dr. Manasi Roy has completed B.Sc. degree from Bankura Christian College and received “Professors A.P. Kundu Memorial Prize” for getting Highest Marks in Organic chemistry at B.Sc. Final Exam (2010) of The University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She has perused M.Sc. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee). During her M.Sc. she was awarded with Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship by Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Calcutta University. During her Ph.D. tenure she received prestigious CSIR Travel Grant to present her research work in Florence, Italy. Later She also received International Travel Scheme (ITS), from SERB and IACS to attend the seminar in Malaysia. She has Published several research articles in highly reputed peer reviewed international journals and presented her work in several national and international seminars. Later she joined as a subject matter expert in a MHRD based project, named National digital Library of India (NDLI), IIT Kharagpur.

RESEARCH

Dr. Roy was focused on design and synthesis of environmentally and industrially relevant ligands and Metal- Organic frameworks (MOFs), and their various applications, e.g. Magnetism, Gas adsorption, Catalysis, Dye degradation etc. She has also designed and executed experiments to establish the synthesized MOFs as encouraging photocatalytic degradation of toxic dye molecule with a potential application in wastewater purification and showed significant MCE (Magneto Caloric Effect) value for Cobalt-based MOFs reported so far; successfully synthesised helical MOFs showing an interesting magnetic feature of single ion magnetism. She has also expert in synthesizing metal organic gels (MOGs) for the removal of toxic heavy metals and their various applications (gas adsorption, Dye degradation).
