Students gain comprehensive knowledge in forensic biology, forensic chemistry, forensic toxicology, forensic medicine, forensic pathology, forensic psychology, forensic anthropology, forensic ballistics, crime scene investigation and management, criminology, forensic jurisprudence, questioned document examination, fingerprint science, digital and cyber forensics, forensic DNA profiling, forensic instrumentation, biostatistics, research methodology, and emerging technologies in forensic science. The curriculum also offers specialized elective pathways in Digital & Cyber Forensics, Forensic Chemistry & Toxicology, Forensic Biology & DNA Profiling, and Questioned Document & Fingerprint Science, enabling students to develop expertise in their chosen area of forensic science.
The programme combines classroom learning with extensive laboratory practicals, simulated crime scene investigations, forensic case studies, scientific seminars, journal clubs, expert lectures, industrial visits, and interdisciplinary research projects. Students receive hands-on training using advanced forensic and analytical instrumentation, developing technical competence, analytical reasoning, evidence interpretation skills, and scientific problem- solving abilities essential for modern forensic investigations.
A distinctive feature of the programme is the fourth semester, during which students undertake 4–5 months of full-time research or an industrial internship at leading forensic science laboratories, universities, research institutes, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, cyber security organizations, government laboratories, or other forensic organizations. This immersive experience enables students to work on real-world forensic challenges, gain exposure to advanced investigative techniques, and strengthen their research and professional competencies.
The programme also promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization through the Student Startup and Innovation Council (SSIC) of Indrashil University. Students are encouraged to develop innovative forensic technologies, analytical solutions, digital forensic tools, patents, and startup ventures through mentorship, incubation support, innovation competitions, and entrepreneurship development programmes.
Graduates of the programme are well prepared for doctoral studies (Ph.D.), research and development (R&D), State and Central Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs), forensic DNA laboratories, police and law enforcement agencies, cyber-crime units, intelligence and homeland security organizations, hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, environmental and wildlife forensic laboratories, customs and narcotics departments, quality assurance laboratories, academia, and entrepreneurial ventures.
The programme aims to develop highly competent forensic science professionals with advanced scientific knowledge, research excellence, technical proficiency, ethical values, innovation-driven thinking, and leadership skills to contribute to the advancement of forensic science, strengthen the criminal justice system, and address emerging challenges in public safety, cyber security, and national security.
The School of Science offers PhD programs in Chemistry and Biosciences. It has seven R&D laboratories with excellent State-of -the-art infrastructure facilities in both Chemistry and Biosciences with highly qualified PhD supervisors from premier institutes with a vast Post Doc experience in research institutes of abroad. The research laboratories are equipped with high throughput scientific equipments as NMR, the only university in Gujarat to be available for research scholars and faculty, GC, HPLC, FTIR, IR, ELISA Reader, Thermal cycler etc. The cutting edge research areas in Chemistry are Total Organic Synthesis, peptides etc. whereas, Biosciences focuses on Microbiology and System Biology. The faculty also has several research projects funded by National and State Funding agencies as DST, GSBTM etc. The University believes in the philosophy that it is through Research & Innovation that will create a benchmark in the education system and hence equal emphasis is laid on research.
