PGD in Business Analytics

Big Data and analytics are the in-demand sectors at the moment. Industry estimates suggests that enough data exists to fill stack of DVDs to reach to the moon and back, and data is only expected to grow further. With the increasing volume, velocity and variety in the data, the ability of organizations to derive meaningful insights from this knowledge base is getting diminished. In a tough economic environment, the ability to make smart decisions will be the difference between being a leader versus being a laggard. This is where Business Analytics makes its mark.

About The Department

Big Data and analytics are the in-demand sectors at the moment. Industry estimates suggests that enough data exists to fill stack of DVDs to reach to the moon and back, and data is only expected to grow further. With the increasing volume, velocity and variety in the data, the ability of organizations to derive meaningful insights from this knowledge base is getting diminished. How is it Useful

Harnessing business analytics capabilities provides an opportunity for industry leaders to consolidate positions, and for laggards to regain lost ground. The ability to model and predict business outcomes with a certain degree of confidence is a concept that has always been demanded by decision makers, but the concept is increasingly becoming more accessible and meaningful, especially in an environment where storage costs have decreased tremendously while data generation has witnessed explosive growth and businesses are connecting with their consumers in a new and increasingly digital world.

Business Analytics makes extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, and fact-based management to drive decision making. Analytics may be used as input for human decisions or may drive fully automated decisions. Business intelligence is querying, reporting, OLAP, and "alerts." In other words, querying, reporting, OLAP, and alert tools can answer questions such as what happened, how many, how often, where the problem is, and what actions are needed. Business analytics can answer questions such as why is this happening, what if these trends continue, what will happen next (predict), what is the best that can happen (optimize).

The key consumer of analytics is the business user, a person whose job is not directly related to analytics per-se, but who typically must use analytical tools to improve the results of a business process.
